Macau, China, May 30, 2019 – Both teams started the match with fierce determination, but after China edged a close first set the hosts stepped up another gear to defeat Korea 3-0 (25-23, 25-12, 25-11).
China coach Lang Ping said: “I think both teams played very well in the first set. I am impressed by Korea’s serves and defence and, considering that we have tall players, if we can follow and learn to play their style of defence we can become an even better team.”
China captain Zhu Ting said: “I am happy with the win today. We put in hard work at practice and I am delighted we were able to show the fans what we are capable of.”
Korea coach Stefano Lavarini said: “China are one of the best teams in the world, if not the best in the world. We worked really hard but China played at a higher level than us. In the first set we tried to play our best game and to stay close to them, but then in the second set China stepped up another gear and we could not resist the pressure that they put on us. We will take all the good things from this match and hope to keep improving day by day.”
Korea player Lee Hyo Hee said: “I believe China are the strongest team in the world, and they put up a very impressive performance today. It was a very good experience to play against China and this game will be a stepping stone for our team.”
