Brasilia, Brazil, May 21, 2019 – The Dominican Republic’s captain, Prisilla Rivera praised the local fans for their support during her team’s victory over Russia at the start of the 2019 VNL season.
Prisilla Rivera, Dominican Republic’s captain: “Even this being our first match this season, we won. We are still getting the rhythm, so any movement costs more. Russia is a young team, but, despite that, they are fierce, eager to win. So we needed to focus. We had the support from the Brazilian fans, and it helped a lot. When people buy tickets to watch you playing, you have to give your 100%.”
Marcos Kwiek, Dominican Republic’s head coach: “In fact, that was our first official game this season. So it is a bit hard to find the beat. Anyway, the most important is to win. We will improve each match from now on, step by step. It was an important result to our team – we are very happy.”
Alexander Krasilnikov, Russia’s head coach: “Our team is formed by young players, but for this first match they have shown a great level of volleyball. Of course I would like to win this first match, but unfortunately we did not.”
Margarita Kurilo, Russia’s wing spiker: “This was my first match for the Russia national team, but I am very satisfied. This level of volleyball is very different from our national championship back in Russia.”
