Brasilia, Brazil, May 23, 2019 – After two losses in their previous games, Olympic champions China claimed their first victory in the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Nations League by defeating the Dominican Republic 3-1 (16-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-23).

Wang Yuanyuan, China Middle Blocker: “We studied the previous games of the Dominican Republic here in Brasília, so we knew what they are capable of. Our team is young so it is normal to have some difficulties, but we are happy that we won at last. Now our goal is to enhance our skills practising even more on each week until the Finals.”

Prisilla Riveira, Dominican Republic captain: “We had a lack of focus in key moments of the game. Our reception did not work as well as in the previous matches this week. China played well and we did not have a good game. But the VNL is a long competition and we still have 12 more games ahead of us.”

Marcos Kwiek, Dominican Republic head coach: “We are sorry that we lost tonight, it does not feel good at all, but we need to learn from this defeat. We missed the chance to add another three points on the board, and that would be important to our team throughout the whole championship. We knew that China would be a tough opponent because they had lost the first two games. We did not push the service as we should have, it was a pity.”
