Stuttgart, Germany, June 12, 2019 – In the first game of the second Volleyball Nations League in Stuttgart the Netherlands celebrated their third overall win, while the Dominican Republic lost the their second consecutive match.
Dutch coach Jamie Morrison said: “As I said yesterday, we have a great group that will come back. The Dominican Republic is one of the most athletic teams in the world, but our hitters did a great job in overcoming the block and finding the right solutions. It was a big step for us. We want to get better in every single match, that´s the most important thing for us.”
Dutch captain Maret Balkestein-Grothues: “It was a progress for our team. We were very solid and didn’t have so many ups and downs, so it was an improvement.”
Dutch setter Laura Dijkema was happy: “We created a lot of pressure in the service and attack. It was important that Anne made such a great game today. We have a wide squad and everyone is ready to play.” About Germany: “It´s always nice to play in Germany. The match will be a lot of fun for the spectators.”
Marcos Kwiek, Coach of the Dominican Republic: “We had a good start in the Volleyball Nations League but couldn’t keep that level for the week in Germany. Now we also have an eye on the upcoming Olympic Qualification tournament, that´s the reason why I made some changes in the starting line-up.” He also added: “Belgium is a strong team. I look forward to play the match against Belgium on Thursday. Of course, we want to win the last match.”
