Conegliano, Italy, May 28, 2019 – Italy scored their first win in Pool 5 on Tuesday against the Dominican Republic 3-1 (25-18, 27-25, 18-25, 25-20). Italy’s top scorer was Indre Sorokaite (17 points).
Italy coach Davide Mazzanti: “It was a good game, even if we had some critical phases. The most difficult aspect of modern volleyball and this tournament is that every year all teams present new formations. I am satisfied with how the third set was played, the important thing in a competition like this is to win.”
Italy player Anna Danesi: “Surely the Dominican Republic reopened the game due to our shortcomings. In this team there are new entries so it is normal that our game is not yet fluid and constant. We are happy with the victory.”
Dominican Republic coach Marcos Kwiek: “We started to play seriously when the first set was over. We started the second set better, but with some mistakes in the end. I’m still happy because we can improve on these errors. We have a good margin to increase. We know that this group is very strong, we have to improve our game to get more points.”
Dominican Republic captain Prisilla Rivera: “We knew that it would be a difficult game because Italy is a very strong team and plays at home. There were times when we were dominating the game, but I think the difference was due to reception.”
