Tokyo, Japan, June 7, 2019 – Brazil defeated pool hosts Japan in their first match in week 4 of the 2019 women’s FIVB Volleyball Nations League.
Brazil coach Jose Roberto Guimaraes: “In the sets we won, our performance was very stable.
In the set we lost, Japan put in place a great defence system and we could not score attack points. Both teams made few mistakes and we played high-level volleyball. We will keep doing our best for the next game.”
Brazil captain Natalia Pereira: “I’d like to say congratulations to ourselves because our performance was really great today. It was a very tough game as Japan put in place a top-level defensive system, and at the same time hit with various kinds of attacks. At first, we had ups and downs during the game, but we were able to calm down.”
Japan coach Kumi Nakada: “The main reason we lost the game is that we could not play well at the beginning of the game. Our performance was not so bad, but we did not score the points against Brazil. Our outside hitters were good, but we have to make a well-balanced offensive system including attacks by middle players.”
Japan player Sarina Koga: “For the team, we could not play well at the beginning of the game. For me, we could not score the points because of the opponent’s strategic block system.”
Japan player Yuki Ishii: “We should have hit stronger serves. We lost many points by Brazil’s high block system. We have to attack in different ways. We will improve our performance and work hard for tomorrow’s game”
Japan captain Nana Iwasaka: “In the first two sets, we could not play well although we practiced hard for today’s game. The last two set, we could play our Japan-style volleyball. We will improve our performance as soon as possible and do our best for tomorrow’s game.”
