Tokyo, Japan, June 12, 2019 – Japan came from behind to defeat Serbia in four sets on Wednesday in week 4 of the 2019 women’s FIVB Volleyball Nations League.
Japan captain Nana Iwasaka: “We didn’t start off well in the first set. However, we managed to get back on our feet during the second set. I hope for the best in the game with Thailand tomorrow so that we don’t make the victory tonight a waste.”
Japan player Yurie Nabeya: “I participated from halfway through the match today and I tried to change the mood of the team. Thailand play a completely different style of volleyball compared to Serbia and corresponding to their style quickly will be very important.”
Japan player Risa Shinnabe: “In the match yesterday, I had some thinking points both as a team and personally. Thailand is very different from Serbia; they are very speedy. I will reset myself both mentally and physically for the game tomorrow.”
Japan coach Kumi Nakada: “We were saved by Serbia’s mistakes. We were able to refresh our minds after losing against Brazil yesterday. I am feeling relieved that we won today.”
Serbia captain Katarina Lazovic: “I am sad that we lost but I am very proud of my girls for fighting until the end. Japan is a great team. It was a great feeling to play against Japan in Tokyo. I hope for the best playing against Brazil tomorrow.”
Serbia coach Branko Kovacevic: “I would like to congratulate Japan on a good game and good victory. Our goal was to play better than yesterday and we indeed did. However, I don’t understand why we use the challenge system if we don’t use it in the right way.”
