Boryeong, Korea, June 18, 2019 – The Dominican Republic claimed a victory against pool hosts Korea on the first day of week 5 of the 2019 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Nations League.
Dominican Republic coach Marcos Kwiek: “I would first like to congratulate the Korean coach on his new team, and the Dominican team was able to play very well by focusing on the serves. We still think that we have a lot to improve on, and overall using only one of our two liberos because the other is still on the youth team, we are happy about our victory today.”
Dominican Republic captain Prisilla Rivera: “We felt that during the match Korea had a lot of hard serves which gave us a lot of anxiety during the game, but we came to the match with the mindset of winning the game, and we tried our best to score more points and ended up winning the match.”
Korea head coach Stefano Lavarini: “Starting off with the positives, we are now improving in the way we approach each match, and in some situations we started to see more and more of the kinds of plays we wanted to put together. And about the other thoughts, our team must be much stronger in the quality of our defence and we use the defence in our offence. Although we have a good defence as of now, this is not the defence we need and we need a defence of quality. We need quality sets, quality digs, from not just the libero and setter, but every player on the court. Another aspect I am disappointed in and sorry for the players, is that the players are trying very hard but in a few situations we should have won more sets and more games that we were not able to finish and bring out good results.”
Korea captain Kim Yeon-Koung: “We made good serves in the beginning of the match and had a lead. I am sorry that we got reversed. The content of the match is important but getting a victory is more important so we will try our best to win following matches.”
